Communities for Children

Early-intervention programs and community partnerships helping Mid-North Coast children aged 0–12 thrive.

Stronger Families, Brighter Futures

Communities for Children (CfC) is a long-running Australian Government early-intervention initiative designed to give children aged 0 – 12—and the families who support them the strongest possible start in life. Funded through the Department of Social Services, CfC invests in evidence-based programs that strengthen early learning, nurture secure parent–child relationships, and build resilient, inclusive communities.

Delivering CfC Support Across the Mid-North Coast

In our region, CCSTD are partners in the delivery of CfC across Taree, Forster and Gloucester. By engaging with local schools, health services, community organisations and First Nations groups, we tailor each activity to the unique needs of Mid-North Coast families. Whether it’s play-based literacy sessions, positive-parenting workshops or community events that foster social connection, every CfC project shares a single goal: safe kids, supported families and a harmonious community where every child can thrive.

Communities for Children is an Australian Government Initiative, funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community and Indigenous Affairs.

Programs for the Mid North Coast

Our service delivers tailored programs throughout Taree, Forster and Gloucester—working with schools, health clinics and community groups to bring early-learning, parenting and family-support initiatives right to the heart of each neighbourhood.

Our Vision & Goals

Our approach is anchored in a simple but powerful framework: put children first, lift up families, and build a community where everyone belongs. These three pillars shape every decision we make and every program we run.

Open to All Local Families

Any parent, grandparent, kinship carer or guardian of a child aged 0–12 who lives in the Taree, Forster or Gloucester catchments can join our Communities for Children activities. Eligibility is open and free—whether you are new to CCSTD or already involved in Family Day Care, NDIS supports, or other programs. If you’re raising a young child in our region, you’re welcome.

Early-Literacy Playgroups – Reading Builds Awesome Brains

Our play-based literacy sessions weave stories, songs, and hands-on activities into a fun weekly routine. Children build vocabulary, phonemic awareness, and a love of books, while parents and carers learn simple ways to extend early-learning moments at home and strengthen secure, responsive relationships.
